INSURANCE SUPERVISORY OFFICE Insurance Supervisory Office, which is based on The
Article 30 of The Insurance Supervision Law, Law
No. 7397 dated 21.12.1959 and started its activities in 1963 is established
to supervise all operations of insurance companies working in Turkey
and their side institutions on behalf of The State Ministry in charge
of economy. The main task of the office is to maintain efficient,
fair, safe and stable insurance market for the benefit and protection
of policyholders. The Office is directly connected with Undersecretariat
of Treasury and its center is in Ankara. It has a group chairmanship
in İstanbul. The Insurance Supervisory Office has one president and sufficient number
of insurance supervisory specialists, actuaries,
assistant insurance supervisory speacialists and assistant actuaries. According to the
Article 30 of the Insurance Supervision Law,
Law No. 7397, basic duty of the office is to supervise the
insurance and reinsurance companies and all the real and legal persons
transacting in this sector. Supervisors of The Office are authorised
to control all books, records, statements and accounting documents at
the premises of insurance and reinsurance companies periodically and
also entitled to handle the claims of the insured by securitizing the
file either at the office or visiting the premises as well. It also
carries out all kind of questionings and serves as specialist in the
course of legal process of insurance claims. The supervisory framework
is life and non life (general) insurance. While actuaries in our office
are responsible for the supervision of the life companies, insurance
supervisory specialists carry out both the supervision of life and non
life companies. Inspections and examinations of the office are divided into two types as on-site
and off-site inspection. The examinations carried out by our office
appear usually as periodical on-site inspection. On the other hand spot
supervisions are also exercised. On-site supervisions are divided into
five in terms of their subjects: The examination of deposits, the supervision
of regulative and legislative operations, the supervision of claims,
the supervision of financial situation and the supervision of technical
business of life. Presently, the
Insurance Supervisory Office, has one chairman in Ankara, one department
head in istanbul and 54 supervisors both
in Ankara and İstanbul. 36 of them are
insurance supervisory specialists, 18 of them are actuaries, 42 of these supervisors are located in İstanbul and 12 of them are in Ankara. SİGORTA DENETLEME KURULU Insurance
